Terry Edwards is a self-taught artist based in Crystal Lake, IL. A full-time paralegal, Terry discovered a love for painting during the pandemic, using YouTube tutorials as a creative launchpad. What began as a personal exploration quickly evolved into a passionate pursuit of art.With a lifelong dedication to storytelling and the arts, Terry has directed over 100 musicals for community theater and church productions. This deep connection to narrative and emotion is reflected in every brushstroke, as Terry draws inspiration from scripture and the whimsical charm of children’s books.Beyond traditional pieces, Terry also enjoys capturing the unique spirit of beloved pets through custom portraits. I have loved the art of photography from a young age. I asked for a camera for my ninth birthday and proudly captured the world around me with a Kodak Instamatic. Freshman year of high school I had my first SLR camera and darkroom and was the photographer for the town paper and school yearbook. In collage I majored in art/photography. I had the chance to meet Ansel Adams and fell in love with long range depth of field imagery. I became a college teacher and taught photography for nearly 30 years; begrudgingly switching to digital in the mid-2000’s. Today I am retired and dabble in many media of artwork, but my true love will always be the ability to capture a moment in time and make it into an art piece.
I’m Carrie Dodt, a fine art photographer who values storytelling, connection, and capturing moments that feel genuine and meaningful. My work is rooted in observing relationships, emotion, and a sense of place. Alongside my photography, I have a strong passion for web work and enjoy collaborating with Artists Association of McHenry County to help share their mission through thoughtful design and clear, authentic communication. Whether through imagery or digital storytelling, I’m motivated by work that builds connection and supports community.
